Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful wine with potential

The nose, yet to open, reveals smoky, burnt wood aromas, complemented by hints of pepper and boxwood.

The wine's balance is fairly full-bodied, dominated by notes of burnt wood and raw tannins, lacking fat or body.

The finish is short and rather dry.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • CHÂTEAU LAMOTHE BERGERON

Considered one of the main Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in the 19th century, Lamothe Bergeron remains today a reference in the Haut-Médoc.

Since 2009, it has been owned by the H. Mounier & Hardy cognac houses, and in 2015, the château was completely restored after 18 months of work.

Terroir: On a surface area of 77 hectares, of which 67 are planted with vines, the vineyard sits on Garonne gravel.

Viticulture: The winemakers pay special attention to vineyard work: sustainable farming, double Guyot pruning, green harvesting, leaf thinning, and cover cropping depending on the parcel.

Vinification: Vinification in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks. Aging for 12 to 16 months in barrels (30% new wood).
