Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

Deep garnet-red colour with black tints. Lovely, open nose with notes of pepper, boxwood and blackcurrant. Good balance, full-bodied, vinous, small envelope, frank and typical with a character that extends the notes of the nose. Ripe tannins, good, fairly long finish.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • Château Theulet

Inherited in part at the beginning of the 19th century by Jean Alard, the rest of the estate became the property of the Alard family in 1848, to become Château Theulet. Winegrowers from father to son, it is now Julien and his brother Antoine who run the estate. Terroir: The estate lies on the northern slopes of the commune of Monbazillac. Château Theulet is ideally situated to produce a wide range of wines under 6 different appellations, including Bergerac, Côtes de Bergerac and Monbazillac. Vinification: The grapes are mechanically harvested, followed by a 5 day pre-fermentation maceration and then a temperature controlled fermentation.
