Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • CHÂTEAU CARBONNIEUX

Château Carbonnieux is located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is one of the oldest châteaux in Bordeaux. In 1956, Marc Perrin acquired the château, which became a classified growth in 1959 in both red and white. The 2021 is a Pessac-Léognan wine produced from vineyards spread over a mosaic of terroirs ranging from clay-limestone to Günzian gravel. 55 hectares are given over to red grape varieties. The vines are on average 25 years old. The entire vineyard has been awarded level 3 High Environmental Value certification. In 2021, 25% of the vineyard will be farmed organically. Harvested by hand, the grapes are sorted on the vine and before and after destemming. Fermentation lasts an average of 10 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine is matured for 15 to 18 months in Bordeaux barrels, 40% of which are new. Château Carbonnieux red 2021 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (58%), Merlot (28%), Cabernet Franc (7%) and Petit Verdot (7%).
