Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

This whisky has a deep golden colour with coppery highlights, clear and brilliant.

The nose is open and peaty, evolving towards notes of leather, juniper and sea spray, with a touch of minerality.

On the palate, the attack is round and powerful, revealing aromas of yellow fruit, leather and minerality, as well as pretty notes of smoke and roasting.

The finish is powerful and slightly sweet, with notes of cigar, leather and spice.

This is a full-bodied whisky with a very long finish, underlined by peat and minerality.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • LAPHROAIG

The peated Laphroaig Quarter Cask whisky has a depth of flavour achieved through a double maturation process.

Its production begins in the same manner as all Laphroaig whiskies, adhering to a tradition established by history and perfected over two centuries.

The malted barley is first smoked and then dried over a fire fueled by peat cut by hand on the island of Islay. After fermentation, the whisky is aged in first-fill bourbon casks made of American oak.

The double maturation process begins when, still young, the whisky is transferred to Quarter Cask casks, a much smaller size than the standard. This step increases contact with the wood and helps develop woody and spicy notes.

Finally, the distillate is rested in the warehouse of the distillery located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
