Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

Garnet colour. Lovely, straightforward nose of crème de cassis and candied peppers. Opens with aromas of liquorice and cocoa. Supple attack with roundness and balance. Frank length with notes of fresh leather and spice. Full-bodied. Good persistence.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • DOMAINE JOSEPH MELLOT

Domaine Joseph Mellot is a historic family estate in Sancerre, whose family origins date back to 1513. Over the generations, the family has become specialists in and ambassadors for the great wines of the Centre Loire region, thanks to its unique expertise. Joseph Mellot wines express the quintessence of each of their terroirs, recognised and distinguished worldwide for their high quality.

Terroir: The vineyard is located on clay-limestone slopes.

Viticulture: The estate has adopted integrated farming methods.

Vinification: The wine is aged for 10 months in wooden barrels. The wood used for barrel ageing comes from the region's oak forests (Allogny and Saint Palais).
