Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

A dark, clear wine with a garnet-red colour. The nose is frank and spicy, with aromas of herbs and roasted black fruit. A supple, well-balanced attack on the palate. A long finish with fine finesse and a frank character, highlighting notes of mocha. Good persistence, underlining the wine's finesse.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • DOMAINE DE L'HORTUS

This cuvée comes from a parcel: L’Ombrée, one of the finest terroirs of the estate. It is north-facing, situated midway up the slope beneath the cliffs of Pic Saint Loup.

The scree soil, composed of limestone shards, is both draining and deep. The vineyard is located in one of the coolest and most humid climates of the valley, particularly well-suited for Syrah.

This results in a maturity that combines aromatic complexity with excellent balance and a very fine tannin structure. Given the perfect maturity of the grapes and thus the tannins, their finesse and elegance do not require barrel aging.

The philosophy of this wine is therefore to achieve an expression of the terroir of L’Ombrée and the 2022 vintage with minimal means.
