Our oenologists' opinion

Fruity and well-rounded

The nose reveals woody, roasted aromas, which then open up to spices and roasted black fruit, offering a warm, dense character.

The attack is supple, with a pleasant roundness, followed by a long, straightforward finish marked by a woody character that blends well with the structure of the wine.

The tannins are mellow, giving the wine a good structure and harmonious balance.

The wine lingers well on the palate, leaving deep, pleasantly woody notes on the finish.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • DOMAINE JOSEPH DROUHIN

Site: In the north of the Côte de Nuits lies a village renowned not only for its prestigious nine Grands Crus. This wine reflects the esteemed reputation its name has garnered.

History & Tradition: The village, recorded as “Gibriacus” in 630 in the chronicles of the Abbey of Bèze, owes part of its fame to Bertin, a Côte de Nuits winemaker.

Following the techniques of neighbouring monks, he planted Pinot Noir on his land, yielding impressive results. The wine from his "champ de Bertin" became famous, inspiring the village's name.

Soil: The land is thin and shallow, with distinctive red-brown soils.
