Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

Dark garnet colour with brick tints. Open nose, with notes of red berries and spices, a hint of candied pepper and menthol. Supple attack, medium body. Small character, fairly fat tannins. Supple, spicy finish with hints of red fruit gratin and cocoa, medium persistence on the spices.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • LA CHAPELLE LEOGNAN

The current vineyard in Pessac, replanted in 1989, is made up of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. The omnipresent hand of man attests to the care taken at all times to shape the double Guyot pruning. With respect for the environment, the analysis of treatments is triggered by knowledge of the terroir and the winemaker's experience in relation to the climate. The harvest, which is entirely manual, begins in October, depending on the ripeness of the grapes in each plot. The "cutters" place the bunches in crates so as not to crush the berries and to protect them from oxidation until they reach the winery.
