Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

A straightforward nose of black fruit coulis, with hints of wood and grilled spices.

Supple and well-balanced on the palate, with a lovely roundness.

The finish is straightforward, with notes of blackcurrant coulis and grilled pepper and good persistence. The tannins are round and silky.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • BARTON & GUESTIER

Our cuvée Les Deux Dames takes its name from two churches: Notre-Dame-Entre-Deux-Arcs and Notre-Dame-de-Couleys. In the 18th century, pilgrims who docked at the port of Saint-Estèphe found refuge there before continuing their journey. Vineyard located in the northern part of the Pauillac appellation, it is the northernmost of the communal appellations in the Médoc wine region.

The gravelly soils, common to all AOC communal vineyards in the Médoc, here contain a slightly higher proportion of clay. Oceanic and temperate climate.

Vinification: grape crushingalcoholic fermentation conducted at 30-32°C with daily pumping over – long maceration (2 or 3 weeks) – malolactic fermentation.

Aging in barrels for 6 to 18 months. Seductive bouquet dominated by beautiful aromas of fresh red fruits (strawberry, raspberry), succulent and smooth palate with red fruits, the tannins are well-integrated.
