Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful wine with potential

The nose is powerful and distinctive, marked by aromas of smoked ventresca, animal, iodine and salty notes, as well as a hint of almost minty freshness.

On the palate, the balance is fine, with a full, powerful texture that retains its finesse.

The character continues the aromas of the nose, with hints of caramel, yellow fruit and a subtle peaty nuance.

The finish is long, taut, fresh and sapid, with hints of iodine.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Only distilled whiskys, raised and bottled in Scotland may bear the « scotch » mention.

Domain and appellation

  • Lagavulin

Founded in 1816, the Lagavulin distillery is now part of the Diageo group. It was the first distillery to legally produce whiskies on the island of Islay.

A true emblem of the brand, the Lagavulin 16-year-old was chosen to represent the Islay malts in the Classic Malts category.

    • Distillery: The Lagavulin distillery is located on the island of Islay, in Scotland.

    • Production: A long fermentation period of 55 to 75 hours is followed by 2 phases of distillation in the distillery’s 4 stills: the first lasting 5 hours and the second 9 hours. This single malt is then aged in oak casks for at least 16 years.
