Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

The nose is straightforward, woody and toasty, opening up to notes of vanilla and candied citrus fruit.

Supple attack, with roundness and balance.

Clean, lingering flavours of candied yellow fruit and acacia blossom, with fatness but not heaviness, and good balance.

Clean, persistent finish.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Domain and appellation

  • CAVE DE TAIN

Founded in 1933 by Louis Gambert de Loche, Cave de Tain benefits from the expertise of nearly 300 growers spread across approximately 1000 hectares of vineyards to produce wines from the appellations Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Cornas, and Saint-Péray, as well as country wines.

    Terroir: Limestone and granite scree.

Vinification: Selection of old vines from the southern part of the appellation on limestone and granite scree. Manual harvest in pallox bins and cold storage for 24 hours. Gentle pressing of the grapes and selection of juices by regular tastings and protection against oxidation to preserve the best of the grapes. Alcoholic fermentation starts in temperature-controlled tanks around 18°C, then maturation in barrels for the continuation of fermentation. Malolactic fermentation in wood for 100% of the volume.

Aging: For 1/3 in 1-wine barrels, 1/3 in 4-wine barrels, and 1/3 in 6-wine barrels, of 400L, for about 10 months.
