Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

The straightforward nose reveals notes of cooked pepper, mocha and undergrowth, with a hint of leather.

The supple attack is marked by balance and a little frankness, while the long finish is characterised by roasted blackcurrants.

The wine lingers on moderately well, with good aromatic coherence.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • CHÂTEAU CHASSE SPLEEN

Tasting the grapes is the best way to determine whether a particular plot of vines will be used to make a grand vin or a second wine.

The juice of a grape can change from one year to the next, while the soil, of course, remains the same.

The Chasse-Spleen terroir is a combination of two types of soil: gravel on a clay-limestone subsoil and clay on limestone.

Rainfall and sunshine during the year will give a different nature to the berries that grow on each type of soil.
