Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful wine with potential

Black colour with garnet highlights. Nose with blackcurrant coulis, fresh spices and herbs. Opens with woody notes. Full-bodied attack, fullness, roundness and balance. Full-bodied, round, vinous, well-balanced, good persistent full-bodied length. The finish is greedy and persistent with notes of cocoa and aromas.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • GÉRARD BERTRAND

Overlooking the Mediterranean by a hundred metres, the Château l'Hospitalet vineyard benefits from exceptional climatic conditions (semi-arid Mediterranean climate with a mild winter variation). The heat and sunshine, attenuated by the altitudinal gradient, offer the possibility of slow ripening from September to October, favourable to the aromatic expression and finesse of the tannins. The Hospitalitas parcel, located in the heart of the vineyard, at the base of a 30-metre cliff that protects it from the north wind, benefits from a microclimate. The exceptional character of this cuvée comes from the fact that the parcel is located on the two terroirs that make up our vineyard: the marl-limestone soils of the Gargasian, rich in fossils, which provide the vines with a supply of water throughout the summer despite the absence of summer rainfall.
