Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful wine with potential

The nose is open and delicious, revealing notes of brioche, vanilla wood and salted butter, with a hint of white flower syrup.

The attack is supple and round, marked by aromas of candied citrus fruit and white flowers, with a hint of minerality.

The wine is full and fat.

The finish is sapid, with a fine envelope of white fruit and a hint of toasted hazelnut.

Young and promising, the acidity has yet to melt, offering a bright future.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Domain and appellation

  • Gérard Bertrand

The Cigalus estate enjoys a Mediterranean climate, of semi-arid type with a temperate spring variant, warm and sunny, allowing for advanced ripening of all grape varieties.

The estate is cultivated using Biodynamics.

The aridity of this climate, with its low rainfall, is compensated by deep soils (sediments deposited by the Aussou stream, which borders the property).

These soils retain winter rainfall for longer, though their fertility is limited by the presence of a slightly calcareous sandstone from the Campanian period in the subsoil.
