CHÂTEAU TROTANOY
This illustrious estate, whose name in Old French meant "too anoi" or "too bothersome" (during land work), is located on one of the most favorably exposed parts of the famous Pomerol plateau and was acquired in 1953 by the Jean-Pierre Moueix Estates, who have been the operators ever since. The soil mix – half gravel resting on clay and half deep black clay – on a bed of iron crust gives the wine both power, depth, and great complexity.
The vineyard, partly spared from the dramatic frosts of 1956, has an average age of 35 years. It is cultivated in a traditional manner (regular plowing, thinning, leaf removal) and harvested ideally in two or three afternoons.
Fermentations occur in cement vats, and the young wine is then aged in oak barrels, half of which are renewed every vintage.
