Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

Dark garnet colour, with brick tints. The nose is open, quite rich, with notes of cherry, blackcurrant coulis, peppermint and a hint of melted chocolate. Velvety, fleshy attack, with red fruit coulis and black pepper. The finish is satiny and ample, with ripe tannins. To be kept in the cellar for another 1 or 2 years before tasting.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • Château Feytit-Lagrave

    Terroir: 2.5 hectares.
Grape variety: 20% Cabernet Franc, which brings roundness, suppleness and fruit. 80% Merlot, which gives finesse, body and fruit.
Age of the vines: 20 years on average.
    Harvesting: By hand.
Maturation: The vat room at Château Montviel allows for traditional vinification in small, temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in vats during the first month of vinification, and new barrels hold the wine for 15 months for malolactic fermentation and ageing.
