Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

The nose is frank and open, revealing aromas of red fruit coulis, candied pepper, black fruits au gratin, with a gourmet touch of roasting.

Supple, well-balanced attack, with body and a lovely character marked by grilled pepper, herbs and hints of sweet spices such as paprika and black pepper.

Good persistence, fleshy finish.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Do you know ?

This magnificent manor house was founded in the 13th century by Edward Tyrgan, a natural son of Henry III of England.

Domain and appellation

  • Chateau de Tiregand

Château de Tiregand is located on the most beautiful slopes of Pécharmant, facing south. The PIAT family recently took over this estate and initiated a conversion to organic farming in September 2022.

    • Terroir:

The 43-hectare vineyard sits on soil composed of sand, gravel, and an underlying iron-rich gravel.

    • Viticulture:

The estate promotes grape maturity through short pruning, controlling the yield of each plot (thinning and green harvesting), and leaf stripping on each side of the row.

    • Vinification:

A 10-day fermentation in tanks, with temperature control, is followed by a 10 to 15-day maceration "on the skins". The wine is then aged for nearly 15 months in oak barrels, with 20% of the barrels being new.
