Our oenologists' opinion

Powerful bouquet

The nose is straightforward, dominated by aromas of cooked black fruit and cocoa, subtly enhanced by notes of mocha and black pepper.

The attack is supple, offering a fine harmony of suppleness and balance.

On the palate, the wine is pleasantly straightforward and full-bodied.

The character is slightly intense, with notes of sweet spices and roasting, with a fleshy finish underpinned by fat tannins that add roundness.

Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • CHÂTEAU BEL-AIR

Located at the heart of the Lussac Saint-Emilion appellation, Château Bel-Air stands out across its single-plot vineyard.

Terroir: This 21-hectare estate rests on a clay plateau with gravelly soils and a subsoil rich in iron and clay.

Viticulture: The vines, averaging 35 years old, are planted with 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. The harvest is done when the grapes reach optimal ripeness.

Vinification: The fermentation lasts several weeks in temperature-controlled vats before a traditional maturation in oak barrels. The wines are bottled around 18 months after harvest.
