CLOS LA COUTALE
Located in the meandering Lot valley, Clos La Coutale produces wines of international renown. The American magazine Wine Spectator ranked it among the 100 best wines in the world in 2009. Terroir : Spread over 100 hectares between oceanic and continental influences, with a soil made up of gravel and siliceous clay-limestone, the vineyard is mainly planted with Malbec (known locally as Auxerrois). Its microclimate and geological formation mean that the wines are ideal for ageing. Viticulture: The vines are on average 35 years old and pruned using the simple seven-eye "guyot" method. Yields are average, at 45 hectolitres per hectare, to allow the fruit to express its full intensity. Vinification: Each plot is vinified separately, in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats with pumping over and punching of the cap, then partially matured in oak tuns. In conversion to organic farming in 2019.
