Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

With 135 years of experience, the Brugal family has distinguished itself as a pioneer in rum production in the Dominican Republic.

In 1888, Don Andrés Brugal founded his own distillery and became the first to set up his own cellars in the country to age his rum.

For five generations, the attention paid to the ageing and blending of Brugal rums has been passed on by the Maestros Roneros, the family's cellar masters.

Domain and appellation

  • Brugal

The Brugal 1888 is a premium rum from the Dominican Republic, crafted from molasses made from local sugarcane. Founded in 1888 by Don Andrés Brugal, the distillery is renowned for its expertise in tropical ageing, a tradition preserved over five generations.

This rum stands out thanks to its exceptional double maturation:

    • First stage: Aged for 6 to 8 years in American white oak barrels previously used for bourbon.
    • Second stage: A further 6 years of ageing in Spanish oak barrels that once held Oloroso sherry.

This double maturation imparts to Brugal 1888 an unmatched complexity and aromatic richness.
