Features

Body ? The body is the way a wine feels inside the mouth. Several factors, such as the alcohol content and the presence of tannins, contribute to the feel of the wine.

Freshness ? The freshness of a wine is defined by its level of acidity. Unlike rounded wines, fresh wines are easy to drink, and are more lively. Acidity plays a necessary part in a wine's structure.

Aging ? All wines do not have the same aging potential. Some are supposed to be consumed at a young age while others must be kept for longer periods of time.

Tannins ? Coming from stems, grape pips and their storage barrels, the tannin gives structure to red wines only.

Domain and appellation

  • Brugal

Brugal 1888 has a complex flavour profile as a result of our double ageing process, releasing the flavour potential of two different casks. The first maturation in ex-bourbon American oak casks (between 6 and 8 years) adds a distinctive woody and dry feel, with notes of vanilla and caramel on the nose. This is beautifully balanced with the ex-Spanish sherry oak cask (aged for 2-6 years), which adds a roundness and slight sweetness on the palate, with notes of red and dried fruit on the nose. Brugal 1888 uses ex-Oloroso Sherry casks in its production - one of the most expensive cask types in the spirits industry. The deep amber colour, with a hint of red, of the finished product represents a complex but balanced rum with a remarkable taste and a long smooth finish that evolves in the glass.
